Welcome to the review of the latest Something Is Killing the Children issue, Something Is Killing The Children #30 by James Tynion IV. SIKTC is one of the hottest comics in the last few years from BOOM! Studios, so let’s see what this latest issue has in store for us. The way our review scale works is based on our interpretation of the story, artwork, and Cover Options of the issue. Please beware with most reviews there is the possibility of spoiler alerts, so if you don’t want anything spoiled wait until after you’ve read to check out our review!
THE GIRL AND THE HURRICANE, PART FIVE
Cutter’s arrival makes saving Tribulation an even more desperate task for Erica, but it’s do or die, because she’s the only one who can keep Gabi safe! And even if she can save the town and make it out alive, she’s still a rogue hunter, and the Order isn’t known for their mercy…
How Are We Feeling After This Issue?
This book picks up in “The Girl and The Hurricane” arc, where Erica is being chased by a not so nice lady aliased Cutter. In a prior issue we saw an interrogation at a New Mexico Police Station where Cutter wants to have some fun and induces some psychological warfare on Erica. The chemistry that these two characters have is fantastic, making you wonder what each will do next. Speaking of… Cutter does not like that Erica took her doll. Wow, what a reaction. The Duplicitype (monster) is on the loose looking like a certain someone so things are not looking so great for our main character. I simply cannot wait for issue #31 to grace our bookshelves.
Cover Options
This issue’s Cover options do a good job of being diverse, but having one thing in common, blood. We start with the Main Cover option where we have the trade version of Cutter slicing and dicing putting in work on something. Ever since Cutter was introduced in issue #22 I don’t think we can get enough of her. She is an explosive yet reserved character that keeps bringing the moments to the panels.
Cover B or the Ario Anindito Variant feels like a continuation of SIKTC Covers we have seen in the past where we have character headshots with some covered in blood and some not so much. This cover we see Erica Slaughter with a chainsaw and blood covering her face, minus where her black mask bandana was. This is a alternate cover for the collectors who might be Erica fans.
The Cover C is a 1:25 Incentive Kirkham Variant. Kirkham always does great work and this is no different. Erica pulling a monster is quite the spectacle and being adults who cannot see monsters, it would be interesting to see her pulling nothing but levitating chains. If you collect the 1:25 Variants this is a solid one to pick up and maybe even get graded if that’s your thing. (I love me some good graded ratios)
The go home Cover is the Cover F Unlockable Dell’Edera Variant. This is the winner in my eyes, as mentioned in the trade main cover a few paragraphs up, Cutter has been a welcomed enemy to bring into the issues. We are very excited to see where this arc goes with the psychological warfare between Erica and Cutter.. also what happens with the Duplicitype (monster). Will Charlotte come to Erica’s aid to defeat it, or will we have another from the House of Slaughter try to get Erica before the secrets of the House are out.
