Knight Terrors (Part One)
WHO IS INSOMNIA? Hello, ghouls and ghosts! This is Boston Brand, a.k.a. Deadman, and I’ll be your supernatural tour guide across the Knight Terrors stories! After that fancy special oversize issue you have to read first, the whole world is trapped inside their nightmares, and Batman and I are trying to figure out who Insomnia really is…and why he wants revenge on the heroes of the DC Universe!
How Are We Feeling After This Issue?
Going into this event I did not really know what to expect or have any expectations. The FCBD Knight Terrors issue was not the first to fly off the shelves May 6th. Other that the exquisite virgin foil cover that was released as well. With that being said, the first 4 pages hooked me. I don’t have much experience reading comics with Deadman as the main focal point, however this was an intriguing change of pace after they told you what he was about in these opening panels.
As we travel through nightmares and take over different bodies we see a lot of different perspectives and motives from these characters. Mainly Insomnia who is are main bad guy at the moment. Once we see a sneak peak of Insomnia’s back story and origin, the panels show us an absolute mess of a situation in the DC Universe. Bet. With Issue #2 right around the corner, let’s find out what Deadman and Insomnia have in story for each other and let’s see if Insomnia can find what he is looking for in these nightmares. I’m all in on the main plot for this. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint.
Cover Options
Knight Terrors has an above average lineup of cover options. We start with the Main Cover option which has Insomnia taking up over half of the cover about to eat Deadman and Batman. The ominous clouds in the background make this appear to be a dream sequence. This cover has grown on me since release and after reading the comic itself. Sometimes good covers are unfortunately mad worse by the “Dawn of DC” stamp.
We move on to the Cover B Francesco Mattina Card Stock Variant. What is there to say about this one. It is mad creepy, like something that came out of a horror film. Which for this series I imagine is the target direction, so even though it’s not my take home, I can get behind the creative aspect of the cover and have faith in knowing that the hardcore horror fans will pick this variant cover up.
The Cover C is the Alex Maleev Card Stock Variant. Yes, just yes. This is my take home cover. The art is wonderful, the creativity of combining Deadman and Batman into one suit in front a what looks like a church type building gives me Daredevil vibes but with a cowl and cape. If you’re a fan of sketch/grayscale/black and white the 1:50 option is the same cover but just that.
Last we have a unique cover which upon release had a misprint of colors from our understanding. This cover is trippy for sure, if you have a cool black light set up at your place this might be a viable option throughout the series as they will be releasing neon covers with each issue. With the release of black light Funko Pops! these would add to a neat set up. And if that’s your thing we hope you get your hands on this cover!
