Welcome to the review of the latest Miles Morales: Spider-Man issue, Miles Morales #5 by Cody Ziglar. Miles Morales is one of the fastest growing and rising superheroes in the Marvel universe, so let’s see what this latest issue has in store for us. The way our review scale works is based on our interpretation of the story, artwork, and cover options of the issue. Please beware with most reviews there is the possibility of spoiler alerts, so if you don’t want anything spoiled wait until after you’ve read to check out our review!
TRIAL BY SPIDER, PART FIVE
SPIDEY’S LAST STAND! New foe RABBLE is superior to SPIDER-MAN in every way. With terrifying abilities, an army of deadly attack drones, and a new class of Spider-Slayer with the stolen powers of CLASSIFIED, she’s got MILES running scared, desperate to find a way—any way—of fighting back. Miles finally has a plan, and he’s ready to counterattack to save the ones he loves…but he’s just played into Rabble’s hand and thwip’d right into the jaws of her trap!
How Are We Feeling After This Issue?
Wow. This issue is the conclusion of the Trial By Spider arc and if you haven’t picked up these issues, put the trade on your pull list now, you will not regret that decision. From the creation of the character Rabble from such a simple concept. I loved the simplicity of her background and what she brought to the table. Ziglar does a great job utilizing Miles’ other special abilities such as venom shock but at the same time these powers are nullified by Rabble. The collaboration with Misty Knight was welcomed as their team up chemistry in the panels was fun to see.
This issue wrapped up the arc nicely and has put Miles’ fans in a nice position to move into the summer event of Miles vs. Carnage. For the details on the Carnage Reigns event check out the link listed. In the end, I am curious to see where Scorpion gets recruited after being caught twice in this arc, once with upgraded armor. I guess we will find out in the coming issues!

Cover Options
- Main Cover
- Marquez Variant
- Alex Ross Timeless Variant
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #5 has a good line of Cover options for this issue. Let’s start with the main cover where Miles is lifting some debris after an attack from his enemy to save his family. This Cover is excellent for where we are at in the Trial By Spider arc. This is my take home issue of these three Covers.
Cover B or the Marquez Variant is another solid option as we see Miles saving a baby from an explosion with his thwip action on the outer edges of the cover. I think my favorite part about this cover is that the baby is holding a Spider-Ham. Excellent placement for Spider-Verse fans and who are Spider-Ham fans.
Last but surely not the least, the Alex Ross Electro Variant. This is another Alex Ross virgin masterpiece variant that is being released as of late. If you collect the Alex Ross Variants, I don’t blame you because they are timeless. Definitely ones that I’d think about grading and displaying. If you are a completionist of the set then this one is a take home issue for you for sure.
Looking Ahead to the Next Issue

CARNAGE REIGNS, PART 2
No matter what MILES MORALES throws at CLETUS KASADY, the Extrembiote-powered monstrosity just keeps coming. And Cletus is only getting stronger. But how? Spider-Man needs help. A distraction, a second to breathe. Anything, or anyone, to give him a chance—any chance—at slowing Cletus down. But Miles can’t rest. Help isn’t coming. He’s the only thing standing between New York City and maximum carnage…and if the heroes aren’t answering Miles’ calls…who’s left on Spidey’s speed dial?
